My journey with SSAL began thanks to a recommendation from Chef John Wesley after working with Kiln on several projects. Chef Junsoo Bae and I connected over a shared love for cuisine and admiration for influential chefs, which led to a memorable day documenting the essence of his San Francisco restaurant.

The experience began at the farmers market, where Chef Junsoo, his wife, son, and sous chef handpicked the freshest ingredients for the week ahead.

Meeting local farmers, including the renowned K&J Orchards—suppliers to establishments like The French Laundry—was a highlight, underscoring SSAL’s commitment to quality and seasonality.

After a delightful lunch with Junsoon and his family, we headed to the kitchen, where the team prepped for the evening’s service.

From photographing stunning ingredients sourced from around the world to capturing the vibrant energy of the kitchen, I witnessed the deep passion and dedication that define SSAL.

This project offered an intimate look at the heart and soul behind the restaurant, from the bonds of family to the artistry of their cuisine.

It was an honor to tell the story of a restaurant that blends tradition, innovation, and community so beautifully.
