MENDOCINO

My journey to the Harbor House Inn in Elk, California, was sparked by a recommendation from Chef Julien Asseo of the Michelin-acclaimed Les Petites Canailles in Paso Robles. After working together on a photoshoot, Julien reached out to Chef Matthew Kammerer, saying, “You’ve got to work with this guy.”

Within two weeks, I found myself on the breathtaking Mendocino Coast, ready to capture the magic of Chef Kammerer’s renowned restaurant.

Arriving in the late afternoon, I immersed myself in photographing Chef Matthew and his team during service. The energy, precision, and dedication of the kitchen reflected the deep soul of this Michelin-starred establishment.

From the serene coastal backdrop to the artistry of the dishes, every detail told a story of craftsmanship and connection to the land and sea.

What stood out most was Chef Matthew’s humility and welcoming spirit.

His grounded leadership created an environment of warmth and collaboration, inspiring everyone around him, myself included.

This experience was not only an honor but a reminder of why I pursue storytelling through photography—to capture the heart and passion that define extraordinary places like the Harbor House Inn.
